Should sand be used in these fire pits?

No sand is needed in our Fire Pits. This is something that the manufacturers of the cheap thin gauge steel Fire Pits recommend to help prevent the fire from destroying their cheap product. We use 3/16" - 1/4" thick steel, so our Fire Pits can withstand the fires as intended.
