Our Fire Pits are made out of carbon steel and have what we call a Natural Steel Finish, meaning that we do not coat or paint the steel. We have found that many paints or coatings will eventually burn off after use. Some people like to paint it with a high heat paint, but even that will begin to fail over time, so continual upkeep is required to keep the Fire Pit painted evenly. Our Natural Steel Finish will oxidize / rust naturally, and this happens on the surface layer, there should be no deep pitting occurring on the Fire Pit.
